[ mood | cheerful ]

Just a heads up for other Laurentian students:  you can get an SPC card (student price card) which gives you discounts at a bunch of places like Bluenotes, Burger King, Second Cup, etc.

It's a pretty good deal cause it's $8.50 and you get a free $10 gift card for Esprit, Guess, Jean Machine or Best Buy.  You can buy it online at http://www.spccard.ca/onlinestore.aspx?ref=$10shopcard, they also have a list of all the stores you can get discounts at.

For those that already have the card, share some of the deals you've gotten!

Care to share your computing @ Laurentian stories? [10 Nov 2006|10:28am]

aco_helpdesk
Hey Laurentian!

My name is Kaitlyn, and I'm working on a co-op placement at the University of Waterloo, mostly in the Arts Faculty Helpdesk, but also for the Information Systems and Technology department. IST is trying to keep up with students' computing needs here, and we'd like to know what you like and dislike about your school's approach.

Do you find your teachers' expectations exceed what the school can support when it comes to computing? Does your school have a required laptop program but doesn't support it? Or, do you love how well you can stay wired on your campus?

If you'd like to share your thoughts, please do so by filling out a 5-10 minute survey here:
http://arts.uwaterloo.ca/~kgholman/survey.html.

The results will only be identifiable by IP address, and it will not be used in the analysis. I will only link your school to your answers.

If you have any questions, you can email me at aco.helpdesk {at} gmail.com.

Thanks, and I hope you're having a great fall semester.

HUCS TO HOST ALL YOU CAN EAT GOURMET SPAGHETTI DINNER AT RESPECT IS BURNING SUPPER CLUB

Huntington University Communication Society (HUCS) will be hosting a gourmet spaghetti dinner along side of Respect Is Burning Supper Club to generate funds for starving students.

HUCS is hosting an ALL YOU CAN EAT gourmet spaghetti fundraiser.
This event will be held at Respect is Burning located in the heart of downtown Sudbury at 82 Durham St.
on October 16th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
With the help of Respect is Burning, HUCS will be selling tickets within the Laurentian Student body, as well as
within the City of Greater Sudbury. Proceeds from this unique fundraising initiative will be donated to
the Laurentian Student Food Bank.
Respect is Burning restaurant will open it’s doors on a Monday, which adds to this event’s exclusivity as the restaurant is normally closed to the public.
Tickets will be sold in advance at 10.00 each, which entitles an individual to ALL YOU CAN EAT gourmet pasta.
HUCS and Respect is Burning recognizes that no student should go without food, and would like to help by hosting this event and raising awareness of student hunger.

Huntington University Communications Society (HUCS) is a Laurentian University Club with over 300 members. The HUCS Executive, which consists of students within the Communications Studies Program, has taken on an inaugural fundraiser for the Laurentian University Student Food Bank. HUCS’ goal for this upcoming school year is to assist fellow students on campus as well as foster a sense of community between students and the City of Greater Sudbury.

If your interested in getting your hands on a pair of tickets please msg me right away!

New York City, May 2007. [14 Aug 2006|12:09pm]

[ mood | excited ]

Hello fellow Sudburians!

My name is Stacey and I'm a student at Laurentian. For the past two years I've been a tour organizer and have worked with a company that does lots of highschool trips called Impact Educational Tours.
I'm currently trying to get another trip together for this coming May, 2007.
Here's all the info as follows.

Dates; May 9th-13th, 2007. (wednesday to sunday).
Cost; $850.
Deposit; Between $275-$320- your choice. The more you pay, the more off the final payment.
Total cost due date; March 9th.
Included;
-3 days, 4 nights at the Skyline Hotel in Manhattan, located in the Theatre District. (http://www.1skyline.com/directions.cfm)
-Motor Coach & Driver
-Tour Guide- Carla Pessoa
-Guided bus tour throughout the city

About Carla;

Carla is a certified teacher who just couldn't get enough of travelling! After teaching English in Taiwan for a year she went off to get her teaching degree in Beautiful Australia! However, when she was finished school she was excited to get back to tour guiding for awhile before settling down in the classroom. She does tours to Ottawa, Quebec and her favorite place to shop - New York City!!! She loves adventure on her tours and as much physical activity as possible. She believes the best way to see a city is by foot! In her free time, Carla enjoys snowboarding, rock climbing, running, dancing and scrapbooking.

Carla has guided our tours in the city for the past two years and she is totally awesome. New York is her favorite place and so she knows lots about it!

Basically, you can make your own trip out of this as well. You've got three days in the city to do whatever you like!
Also, there isn't an age limit. We had people as young as 15 and as old as 62 on trips past. Lots of parents also come on the trips. Come one, come all!

Also, check for any other info at my community, new_york_dazzle
Feel free to join and ask questions! There is no such thing as a stupid question!

I will also be holding "gatherings" at local Tim Hortons to help out people who have never been to NY before so that you can have help planning your adventure!
Feedback from the trips has always been good, and many, many people who came the first year also came again last year because it's so much fun.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me! (melodic_dragon@hotmail.com)
Or comment please.

Thanks a lot! And hope to see you in NYC.

Appartment hunting [30 May 2006|09:01pm]

i_love_dragons
Hello, haven't posted here much but here we go.
My sister and a friend of hers are moving to sudbury in late August/early September to go to school (one at LU and one at Cambrian) and they're looking for an apartment to share. They're looking for either a 1 bedroom that can be converted to accomodate two people, or a 2 bedroom appartment, around the 400 - 600/month price range, all inclusive.
If anyone has any leads, it would be greatly appreciated as a comment to this post!

Note: cross posted to Sudbury.

has anyone here participated in the long-term exchanges with ISEP?
Any stories/suggestions/advice?

I've read the website (ours and the ISEP one) and I've emailed Bora with a few questions, but I just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has gone on any adventures through them :)

Off Campus as of May 1st [11 Feb 2006|01:26pm]

i_love_dragons
[ mood | optimistic ]

I haven't posted much on this community, so I'll just quickly introduce myself. My name is Lisa, I'm 23 and I'm just in the middle of my first year as a Graduate student here at LU. I did my undergrad here too so I'm pretty familiar with how things work.

BUT..and here's where my post comes in. I've been living on campus the entire time. As fun as its been, I'm looking for some more freedom...that and I missed the first draw for the new resdience (silly me...time management, what's that??). So, what I'm posting about is this:

Is anyone looking for a new roomate or looking for someone to move off campus with. Most of my friends are either sticking around on campus, or are unsure what they're doing. OR if anyone knows of good places coming up for rent as of May 1st or so I'd love to have a heads up! Just comment if you can help me out!

Thanks in advance for the help!
Cross posted to Sudbury.

Hey everybody. I'm writing an assessment on aboriginal issues and media coverage. If anybody would let me interview them I would be forever grateful. Anybody can be interviewed and there are not many questions. I would like to reflect all equal sides to this assessment so any input would be great!

Im soo tired. My feet are aching like mad. I have been standing up at work for like 9 hours and walking up and down and now that I finally am home, they feel like they are going to give. I should probaly get that checked by a doctor, but meh, resting them will have to do for now. I am soo tired, I need to save up money so I can for all my stuff before I go to uni, and I expect it to be over 60 dollars, even though I don't want to spend that much. Plus on top of that I have to do Christmas shopping and I need more hours at work than I already have. Arrrrrghh. Also, those people from the registors/admissions office have not sent me my registration package and its december now. What is up with that. I want to choose my courses. What I am also getting a bit peeved about is the fact that, I think that my course is only for a term, when I was hoping for a course for two terms, so I don't know how that is all going to work, but osme way some how I have to do two terms. I still haven't gotten my call from the residence offices yet. Its not fair I am not guarenteed a residence and I am a first year and apparently on the site somewhere it says that first years are supposed to be guarenteed residences. Well, if anyone knows of a friend who is leaving their residence in January or know someone who is going to get kicked out before January please tell me. I am soo excited none the less. Hopefully LU has some nice fitness centres cause I don't want the freshman 15 even though I doubt that will happen to me since I have to metabolism of a ferret. Aparently I have to pay some athletics fee with my tuition so hopefully that is for the school gym or something. If anyone here goes to any gym on campus could you please tell me the cost for it, and Thanks. Meh, I will go back to resting my feet and eating some ice cream and walnuts. Lol.

[ mood | thoughtful ]

It's been ten years since I left Laurentian and I still have a recurring nightmare about forgetting that I am in a class. I don't realize it until the day before finals. Wakes me up every time.
Let that be a lesson about procrastination.

I really only have happy memories about Laurentian. Not that some bad things didn't happen.

Is the Laurentian Off Campus Students organization still around? I was VP and Treasurer way back.

I may have to come up to Sudbury for work in a month or two. I think I'll have to bag off work for a bit and swing by the school. Have a beer in the Pub like old times, except I'm sure I'll feel quite old.
